Cristiano Ronaldo biography
Ronaldo started playing competitive soccer for Andorinha amateur club when he was only eight years, and then for local team CD Nacional when he was 10. He moved to Sporting CP, one of the biggest football clubs in Portugal in 1996.
Ronaldo trained in the youth team before making his senior debut in 1999 against Moreirense in which he scored the brace. He made his European debut in the Champions League qualifier against Inter.
Ronaldo first gained international attention when he played for Portugal's youth teams in the UEFA Under-17 Championship.
Liverpool under manager Gérard Houllier at that time, was reported to have interest in signing Ronaldo. It was also revealed later that the Arsenal closed to signing him before moving to Manchester Utd in 2003.
Ronaldo's signature came after Sporting defeated United 3-1 in pre-season friendly. The United players spoke enthusiastically about the winger on his way home, and suggested manager Sir Alex Ferguson to sign up players, which he did with a price of £ 12.24 million.
Ronaldo made an impressive debut for United as a substitute against Bolton; 30 minutes performances created hype with United fans and the English media with his dazzling lead. He scored his first goal for the club with a free kick in a 3-0 victory over Portsmouth in November.
Despite the promising start, the first two seasons at the club received mixed reviews. He was praised for his technique and skills, but often criticized for a lack of consistency and poor decision making in the field.
Ronaldo make his senior debut for Portugal soon after signed by the States in the match against Kazakhstan in August 2003. A controversy occurred in the 2006 World Cup in which Ronaldo is expected to influence the referee to send his United team-mate and England striker Wayne Rooney in their quarter-final clash.
Ronaldo is being used as scapegoats for the defeat of England in the World Cup and the hatred against him has prompted his intention to leave England and America. In the end America got him, and Ronaldo had a great season in the Premiership against all odds.
Ronaldo won both the PFA Player and Young Player of the Year Award in 2007, he also chose the player of the Year by the Football Writers Association, and is 3 finalists for both the FIFA World Player Year and European Player of the Year award in 2007.
Ronaldo continued good form in the 2007/2008 season, netted in 42 goals in all competitions (31 in the Premier League), and was again selected as the PFA Player of the Year and Football Writers' Player of the Year.
His appearance contributed to United's double for the season, winning the Premiership in a row and took home trophies UEFA Champions League, where he scored a goal in the final.
Ronaldo has been named both FIFA World Player of the Year and European Player of the Year in 2008.
Ronaldo scored 26 goals in 2008/09 season, helping United to the Premiership title, and again reach the Champions League final where they lost to Barcelona.
Ronaldo became the most expensive soccer player in the world after moving from Manchester United to Real Madrid in July 2009 at £ 80 million. He was greeted by 80,000 fans at the Santiago Bernabéu stadium during his official presentation.
Ronaldo's Real Madrid career started well and in a form touched until the injury in October. He returned soon after its shape and scored 33 goals in his first season for Real, but could not help the club to win any trophies.
Ronaldo's national team captain at the 2010 FIFA World Cup, but they were eliminated in 16  so but he remained a public kebangaan Portugal.
